Former bus driver offers apology in child sex abuse case

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Mechanicsburg man charged with sexually assaulting a child waived a preliminary hearing Monday morning.

Stanley Richwine, 61, is facing several felony charges, including eight counts of rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.

Immediately following his court appearance, Richwine was escorted out of district court by police.  As he walked out, he was asked if he is sorry for the crimes, to which he answered, "absolutely".

Police said Richwine has confessed to the crimes.  He was a bus driver for the Cumberland Valley School District, and had a lot of contact with other children.  Police and the district have said the victim was not a child he knew through his job as a bus driver, and that he had passed background checks prior to being hired.

According to the Cumberland County District Attorney's office, Richwine is due in court this June for a formal arraignment.
