HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Bishop Joseph P. McFadden will celebrate a Mass for Pope Francis at noon Friday in Saint Patrick Cathedral in Harrisburg.

McFadden also issued a statement Wednesday that called the election of Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina "truly a work of the Holy Spirit."

"The Cardinals have responded to divine inspiration and the prayers that have been offered by believers throughout the world," McFadden said in the statement. "I am confident that this man will be given every gift he needs to fulfill this essential role in the Catholic Church.

"His choice of the name "Francis" clearly shows that his heart lies with the poor and the marginalized," McFadden continued. "It reminds us of the great Saint Francis of Assisi, who gave up everything in this world to respond to Christ's call to rebuild his Church."

"While we know the Church and the world face many difficulties today, Pope Francis does not come as one who is charged to solve every problem," McFadden said. "Instead, just as Jesus selected Peter from among men because of his strong faith, this new Successor of Saint Peter is a gifted man chosen by God and affirmed by the Church."

"Following both Saint Peter and Saint Francis, he will act as a visible sign of hope and strength for Catholics with whom he wishes to walk together in humility and love."shop Joseph P. McFadden
