Deputies Speak About Gun Safety to Kids in Danville

Posted:

Danville, VA - Danville deputies spoke with young children Wednesday about gun safety. It's all part of an event they do every March for Community Helper Month.

They spent two days at Head Start to talk with 3 to 5 year olds. They explained that you should call 911 if are in a bad situation, and if you ever see a gun, not to touch it.

Deputies spoke with more than 200 kids. They even let them look at one of the Sheriff's vehicles, so the kids would get comfortable around them.

"We want to come here and talk to them about we're here for help, for friends. We are there to give them the help they need and feel comfortable around us and not be scared when they see us coming into the neighborhoods or anywhere that we are," said Cpt. Steve Martin, with the Danville Sheriff's Office,

They say it is important to make sure the children are safe in and outside of school.
