LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -
Police say a 35-year-old man assaulted a Lancaster County woman prior to her death and threatened to kill two other women and four children in the apartment early Saturday morning.
Kevin Souffrant has been charged with assault and firearms violations after a shooting in a Lancaster apartment that wounded him and left 21-year-old Shadae Taylor-Brooks dead.
Police say Souffrant pointed the gun at Taylor-Brooks and two other adult women in the apartment and threatened to kill everyone inside, which included four children under the age of five.
Souffrant has been described as both the boyfriend and ex-boyfriend of homicide victim Taylor-Brooks. He is currently in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds from the incident on Saturday.
Though police have not charged anyone in Taylor-Brooks's death, they say Souffrant pistol whipped her twice prior to her death.
During that assault, the two women and three of the children were able to leave the apartment. Police say Taylor-Brooks tried to hand off a 6-month-old baby, but she was unable to do so and the baby remained in the apartment.
Souffrant has been charged with persons not to possess a firearm; use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer of firearms; aggravated assault; two counts of simple assault; terroristic threats and endangering the welfare of children.
The investigation into the homicide continues. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lancaster City Police at 717-735-3300. Information can be left anonymously.
