HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) -

A former Dauphin County school board member has been charged with rape of a child and sexual assault among other things.

"The District is saddened to learn of the charges filed ... against Mr. Rodney Nissley, a member of the Board of School Directors," Lower Dauphin School District said in a statement Friday. "The district expresses its concern for all the parties affected by this case and will have no further comment on this matter as it proceeds through the criminal justice system."

District Spokesman Jim Hazen said Nissley, 47, resigned from the school board on March 14. He  has been on the board since December 2008.

The investigation into Nissley was prompted in November when a student told her school counselor that she had been subject to sexual abuse for several years. The abuse was reported to Dauphin County Children and Youth Services and Hummelstown Police.

Police say none of abuse was alleged to have taken place during school events or to be related to the school.

Nissley of Hummelstown has been charged with rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, indecent exposure, corruption of minors, and unlawful contact with a minor.

Nissley has been released on $25,000.00 unsecured bail.
