LYNCHBURG - The Liberty men's basketball team was supposed to arrive in Dayton, OH for their NCAA Tournament game (Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. on TruTV) by Monday at 8:20 a.m. Now they're scheduled to arrive at 3:20 p.m.
Players, coaches, and team personnel arrived at the airport for an expected 7 a.m. departure but the plane that ironically was coming from Dayton did not arrive at the originally scheduled time. It had to be de-iced in Dayton and Liberty was told the flight would be delayed an hour and then once the plane was inspected in Lynchburg, a further delay was created because of mechanical problems.
Everyone who was planning on flying had to leave and will now come back to the airport for a 2 p.m. departure.
NCAA Tournament news conferences with Liberty players and head coach Dale Layer are set to begin at 5:05 p.m.
North Carolina A&T has already arrived in Dayton. Sports information director Brian Holloway said (at 11:45 a.m.), "We flew out at 8 a.m. and arrived at 9:15 a.m. We're settled into the hotel and the team is out to lunch."
Justin Feldkamp, videographer Brian Whitesell, and satellite truck operator Tom Jenkins are en route to Dayton and plan to begin reports on ABC 13 News at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.
