Why You Shouldn't Buy Easter Pets

Posted:

Danville, VA - As popular as bunnies, chicks, and ducks are around Easter time, the Danville Humane Society asks that you not buy them.

They say that many people will buy them now as gifts and not realize how much work they will be as they grow older.

In fact, they still have a rabbit from last Easter, that couldn't be taken care of properly.

In the past, the Humane Society says they have had to rescue ducks after they were discarded in the Dan River after Easter. So they have another suggestion for this year's gift.

"We strongly encourage people to give stuffed animals or chocolate bunnies rather than live animals for pets," said Paulette Dean, executive director of Danville Humane Society.

The Danville Humane Society does not allow any rabbits they have at their location to be adopted for Easter.
