The state Department of Agriculture will be checking in on Dauphin County dog owners to make sure they have current licenses and rabies vaccinations for their pets.
Agriculture Department spokeswoman Samantha Elliott Krepps said dog wardens will canvass homes in all areas of Dauphin County, except Harrisburg City, in April and May.
All dogs three months or older must be licensed by January 1 of each year, and all dogs and non-feral cats three months of age and older must be vaccinated against rabies.
Violators face a maximum fine of $300 for each offense, plus court costs.
