GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

An Adams County man will spend nine months on probation for a deer poaching incident that led up to the murder of a wildlife conservation officer.

Ryan Laumann, 22, of Fairfield, received the sentence Monday after he pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful taking of big game.

Laumann was with Christopher Johnson when the two illegally shot a deer in Freedom Township in November 2010. Officer David Grove was attempting to arrest the pair when he was killed in a shootout with Johnson, who was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for Grove's murder in October.

In addition to probation, Adams County District Attorney Shawn Wagner said Laumann must also pay a $3,000 in fines and will lose his hunting license for a "significant amount of time."
