CVS employees required to participate in health screenings

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

CVS Pharmacy will require its employees who use its health plan to submit their weight, body fat, glucose levels and other vitals or pay a monthly fine until the information is received.

Employees who comply will no see an increase in their insurance rates.

Company officials say the program will help create a healthier workforce and keep medical costs down.

Critics call the effort coercion and many believe wellness programs are in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act because companies are making medical inquires of its employees.

Employees have until May 1, 2014 to submit their vitals. Those who refuse to participate will have to pay an extra $50 per month for the company's health insurance plan.
