Another basketball season is complete for the Liberty men but this one will stick in the memories of the team and Flames fans.
LU came oh so close to advancing to the NCAA's next round, but John Caleb Sanders' last second shot stayed out and the Flames fell 73-72 to North Carolina A&T. Looking to next year, Tavares Speaks graduates but the injured Antwan Burruss returns.
John Caleb Sanders, FLAMES RISING SENIOR, said "Just the experience of being in the tournament for the other 13 guys, picking up Antwan who's going to be a senior, I think we have a good shot at coming back here next year."
Flames Head Coach Dale Layer said "We ended on a great note and I think we finally put together the team we thought we'd have from the get-go and couldn't and with Antwan coming back, he's just going to add to the mix and he's an experienced hand to have around. I think this will allow us to work hard in the off season and gain some juice as we move forward and I think the future's bright."
After flying in from Dayton, the Flames bused back to campus around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, a group of fans and well wishers there to welcome the Big South Tournament champions back home. Now it's the Lady Flames' turn, they open NCAA play Sunday in Louisville against Purdue.
