LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -
Police have charged at 35-year-old Lancaster County man with the March 9 death of 21-year-old Shadae Taylor-Brooks.
Kevin Souffrant was previously charged with assault and firearms violations
for a shooting in his Lancaster city apartment. The charge of homicide was added Thursday.
Souffrant was injured in the incident and remained in the hospital until March 16. Since then, he has been held in Lancaster County Prison.
Around 4:40 a.m. on March 9, police say Souffrant pointed the gun at Taylor-Brooks and two other
adult women in the apartment and threatened to kill everyone inside,
which included four children under the age of five.
Souffrant has been described as both the boyfriend and ex-boyfriend
of homicide victim Taylor-Brooks. He is currently in the hospital
recovering from gunshot wounds from the incident on Saturday.
During that assault, the two women and three of the children were
able to leave the apartment. Police say Taylor-Brooks tried to hand off a
6-month-old baby, but she was unable to do so and the baby remained in
the apartment.
Police say Souffranta also pistol whipped Taylor-Brooks twice prior to her death.
Souffrant has been charged with homicide, persons not to possess a firearm;
use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer of firearms; aggravated
assault; two counts of simple assault; terroristic threats and
endangering the welfare of children.
The investigation into the homicide continues. Anyone with
