A former resident of a Lancaster County nursing home has been ordered to trial for sexually assaulting an 86-year-old woman with Alzheimer's disease.

Glenn Allen Hershey, 66, of Akron, waived a preliminary hearing Friday before District Judge Tony Russell, who scheduled a formal arraignment for April 24.

Hershey was then returned to the Lancaster County Prison, where he is being held on $200,000 cash bail.

According to the criminal complaint, Hershey is a registered sex offender who was not allowed to have private meetings with the woman due in part to her deteriorating medical condition.

After Hershey was seen leaving the woman's room at the Maple Farms Nursing Home in Akron during the early morning of Jan. 20, staff members checked on her and found her pants had been pulled down and the bed covers had been pulled away from her feet, according to the complaint.

Hershey later admitted to another resident and to a police officer that he performed sexual acts on the woman, according to the complaint.

He was charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and indecent assault.
