School board to allow gay-straight alliance club at high school

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The Chambersburg School Board has voted 5-4 to keep a gay-straight alliance club at the high school.

The ACLU has said they would sue the district if they did not continue to allow the club to operate.

Without the club status, the group wouldn't have been able to fundraise, advertise events, or participate in other school functions.

"It means that we can effectively get the word out about our club now so we can be able to help more people," GSA President Amber Fogelsonger said.

Last month, the school board rejected the club. Following the ACLU's threat of legal action, the school board agreed to readdress the issue.

When board members voted again, they decided to affirm the club's existence.
