Man, 27, injured after shooting himself during robbery

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police are investigating an incident in Harrisburg involving a man who accidentally shot himself in the groin during a robbery attempt.

On Wednesday at around 1:20 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 900 block of North 3rd Street after receiving a report that a man had been shot.

The injured man told police that he had been visiting a friend and was returning to his car. He was approached from behind by a robber who demanded his valuables.

The man grabbed a handgun from his waistband. The gun discharged, shooting him in the groin and making him bleed profusely.

He was rushed to the Hershey Medical Center and underwent emergency surgery.

During their investigation, officers found a handgun hidden between the curb and a parked car. They also uncovered a bullet proof vest under the parked car.

Items of drug paraphernalia were found in the man's clothing. Police are still working through the details of this case.
