The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board says revenue generated by slot machines last month was the second-highest monthly amount since the opening of casinos in 2006.
Pennsylvania's 11 casinos grossed a total of $229.3 million in slot machine revenue last month, second only to March 2012 when casinos raked in $233.1 million, according to a Gaming Board news release.
Tax revenue generated from slot machine play last month was $123.4 million.
However, in a comparison of the 10 casinos operating in March 2013 that were also open for the full month of March 2012, revenue was 3.9 percent lower this year. Valley Forge operated for only one full day plus two test nights in March of last year.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course had $22.8 million in slot machine revenue last month, down 2.4 percent from $23.4 million in March 2012.
