Police have identified the couple who died in an apparent murder-suicide on Tuesday morning in York County.
Authorities were called to a home in the 900 block of Hedgegate Lane in Manchester Township at around 1:45 p.m. They found 43-year-old Parag Patel and his wife, 41-year-old Niha Patel, dead in an upstairs bedroom.
York County Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley says Parag Patel used a .38 caliber revolver to shoot his wife in the head and then himself in the chest at around 8 a.m.
A .38 caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.
Stabley also said the couple had ongoing marital problems.
Niha Patel's mother was at the residence at the time of the incident. She did not report hearing anything out of the ordinary.
Police say the couple's two children were at school when the shooting occurred. One of the children's classmates and neighbor, Noah Riek, said he was shocked and never expected something like this to happen in his neighborhood.
"I just feel really bad for him [the victim's son] because, if I was put in that situation, I have no idea what I would do,"Riek said. "I would be devastated. I feel very bad for him and his sister. They will be in my thoughts and prayers."
Riek said he never saw any signs from the family or anything unusual.
The investigation into the incident continues. Anyone with information may contact Northern York County Regional police at 717-292-3647.
