Man, 39, arrested following shooting in Lancaster

Police arrested a suspect following an investigation into a shooting incident last week in Lancaster.

On Sunday, March 24, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 200 block of West King Street. They tended to the 21-year-old victim who was shot in the leg following an altercation.

After authorities investigated the incident, 39-year-old Fidel Montanez of the 1500 block of Springside Drive was identified as the shooter by multiple witnesses.

Police discovered that the shooting took place in the rear parking lot of an after-hours club following a verbal altercation inside the club between two groups of people. Those two groups were told to leave the premises.

Once outside, the victim was physically assaulted by several suspects. According to police, Montanez retrieved a gun from a nearby vehicle and fired it several times.

First he shot into air, then he shot several times at the victim and the group surrounding him. One of the bullets struck the victim in the leg.

Detectives then charged Montanez with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

On Wednesday police obtained an arrest warrant on these charges. Montanez subsequently turned himself in on Monday, April 1, shortly after 3:30 p.m. He was then arrested.

Montanez was arraigned, and bail was set at $100,000. A bail bondsman posted bail, and Montanez was released.
