YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Six homes were evacuated Wednesday morning following a gas leak in Manchester Township, York County.

Officials said a gas line was ruptured at around 8:30 a.m. when a large piece of construction debris fell on top of an exposed line. The gas was shut off about two hours later.

The intersection of North George Extended and Meeting House Road was closed while the line was closed during the repair, but has since reopened.

Manchester Fire Chief Joe Stevens said that most people who live on the street were at work when the incident occurred.

Stevens said all affected homes were checked, and all gas levels inside were found to be normal.
