Corbett: Impact fee proceeds reach $400M

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Governor Tom Corbett announced Thursday that the Marcellus Shale Impact Fee has brought in more than $400 million dollars in its first two years.

The impact fee on natural gas drillers is part of Act 13 that was signed into law in February 2012.

Corbett said nearly $198 million is expected to come into the state from the 2012 collections. The first round of collections, from 2011, brought in $204 million.

The governor said collections this year are slightly lower than last year due mainly to the lower price of natural gas.

He added that payments for some wells are still being challenged by some producers. Under the law, disputed wells are not reflected in the current data.
