WEST YORK, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police who arrested a York man for an attempted child luring incident said they found a mattress, a box of candy and latex gloves in his van, according to charging documents.

West York police filed the criminal complaint Saturday night against 43-year-old Julio Flores Jr. after he allegedly approached two youngsters while driving the van in the area of Slagle Park, asked them if they were still in school and offered them candy, the document states.

The youths declined the offer and, fearing they might be lured into the van, ran to tell an adult what had happened, police said in the document.

An investigating officer found the van about a half-hour later and said the dark green Ford Econoline, with "Baltimore Painting Authority" on the side, had curtains around the rear and side windows and candy between the seats, the document states.

Flores answered the door at a second-floor apartment in the 1500 block of West King Street and initially claimed he had been home for over an hour, but later admitted that he spoke to the children and asked them whether they go to school, police said.

He also gave permission to search the van, where officers found the mattress in the back, and the latex gloves and a lollipops in the glove compartment, police said.

Flores was later identified by one of the youths, police said. He was charged with child luring, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia and then sent to York County Prison on $100,000 bail.
