Rescued dog, Eve, on the road to recovery

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Eve—a rescued American Pit Bull Terrier from Franklin County—is preparing for a very important procedure, according to the Lincoln Way Animal Hospital's Facebook page.

abc27 first reported on Eve after she was found severely malnourished off of Falling Springs Road in February.

Her caretakers at Lincoln Way Animal Hospital in Chambersburg are taking her to Virginia today where a veterinary cardiologist will perform an echocardiogram (or an "echo") to make sure that Eve's heart is working properly.

The team at Chesapeake Veterinary Cardiology Associates is performing the procedure free of charge.

When she arrived at Lincoln Way Animal Hospital on February 21, Eve weighed only 25 pounds, half the healthy weight for a dog her size. She was too weak to stand, and her temperature was so low it couldn't register on a thermometer.

Her caretakers say Eve was close to death when she was found, but now she has an excellent support system.

Eve is not yet up for adoption, but Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter is encouraging anyone interested to consider adopting one of the other dogs in their shelter in need of a forever home.

abc27 will continue to report on Eve as more information comes in about her procedure!
