Cash-strapped Lebanon considers early intervention program

LEBANON, Pa. (WHTM) -

Another cash-strapped midstate city is looking into entering the state's early intervention program.

Lebanon city officials met Tuesday night to discuss the program. It's offered by the State Department of Community and Economic Development. State officials would make recommendations, but it would still be up to council members to approve them.

Lebanon Mayor Sherry Capello said the city has already made a lot of cuts and needs assistance to avoid a bigger financial mess.

"We're in the same place as the majority of other third-class cities in the state of Pennsylvania," Capello said. "We're facing a dire financial situation and we need to make some difficult decisions as we move forward."

The deadline to apply for the program is May 1.
