Pa. House passes child abuse reporting bill

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The state House of Representatives has passed legislation to protect Pennsylvanians from workplace discrimination when they report suspected child abuse.

House Bill 429 would expand the employment protections given to mandated reporters, those required to report suspected cases of child physical or sexual abuse, to permitted reporters, who are not required but encouraged to make such reports.

Those who report suspected abuse could not be penalized though compensation, advancement, or any other privileges of employment.

The bill now goes to the Senate for consideration.
