Police: fingernail was weapon in reported stabbing

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police say that a reported stabbing in Harrisburg was actually a fingernail scratch inflicted during a fight.

On Monday at about 5 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to a home in the 1400 block of Berryhill Street on a report that a woman had been stabbed in the head.

Police investigated, and they determined that the 38-year-old female victim got into a dispute with four other neighborhood women the night before the assault.

The next day, the four women arrived at the victim's residence and an altercation took place.

The victim was bleeding from a scratch to the scalp, and a witness, thinking the injury was severe, called police.

She was taken to Harrisburg Hospital where an emergency room physician determined that the injury was probably the result of being scratched by a fingernail. The woman was cleaned up and sent home. No medical treatment was required.

Police are still investigating this incident. Anyone with information may contact detectives at 717-255-3114.
