Pa. airman surprises daughter with return home

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Pennsylvania National Guard Senior Airman Dave Graci surprised his daughter, Taylor Cady, at her school Thursday afternoon.

Dave is a combat engineer and has been in Afghanistan, and his family hasn't seen him for more than seven months.

When students at Mechanicsburg Middle School were called to the gym for a surprise assembly, they were told it was about PSSA testing, which has been taking place all week, but it was a cover for the surprise reunion.

As students filed into the gym, Dave and wife Nicole hid in a nearby room. Taylor was called down to answer some questions, and that's when her dad walked out and surprised her. Taylor ran across the gym and the two hugged while students cheered.

"I didn't have a clue. I was just shocked," Taylor said. "I was really happy to see him. I was really excited."

Taylor's mom thanked the school for planning the surprise.

"It was amazing," she said. "I knew she would lose it. It was perfect."

The couple has three daughters, 16-year-old Alex, 14-year-old Taylor, and 4-year-old Mia. The airman also surprised his 16-year-old earlier in the day.

"I'm glad to be back, tired, but it's good to see the family," he said.
