CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police in North Middleton Township, Cumberland County are investigating an incident where an 8-year-old boy reported that he was offered candy by a stranger in a van.

The boy told officers that the van slowed down beside him late Saturday afternoon in the 1100 block of Newville Road, and a front-seat passenger smiled at him and offered the candy, police said.

The child didn't answer the passenger and the van stopped two houses down, at which time the child went into his house and told his father what had happened, police said.

The van was last seen headed into Carlisle. It was described as an older, orange van with no windows or doors on the side, and two doors and windows on the rear, police said.

The passenger was described as a young man with blond curly hair, a small mustache, and said to be wearing a red hat with black letters, police said. The child didn't see the driver.
