Police are searching for an alleged carjacker who led officers on a high speed chase in the area of Routes 30 and 283.

Just after 9 p.m. on Monday, a state trooper tried to stop an erratic and reckless driver in Manheim Township. The driver fled, speeding in excess of 120 mph and refusing to stop for authorities.

During the chase the speeding driver went off the road and over a ditch into an empty field. The driver was able to maneuver through the field and make it onto Route 772.

The pursuit headed towards Marietta/Columbia, and the speeding driver crashed into a parked vehicle in the area of Route 441 and Third Street. The driver left his car and fled on foot.

Even with the help of local officers, K9 units and Maryland State Police Aviation Unit, authorities were unable to find the man in question. The search was called off after an hour and a half.

Soon after the incident, police discovered that the vehicle involved in the pursuit had been stolen in an armed carjacking earlier in the night in Cumru Township, Berks County.

This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information may contact Pennsylvania State Police at 717-299-7650.
