2nd dog in 5 months test positive for parvo at Adams Co. SPCA

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Dog adoptions at the Adams County SPCA are on hold for at least a week. Someone brought in a stray on Monday with good intentions but without realizing how sick the dog was.

Adams County SPCA workers named the stray Sasha. They said they felt a connection with her right away because there was evidence she had a tough life.

A couple days after Sasha was dropped off, she got sick and tested positive for parvo, a disease only dogs can get. Parvo is very contagious, painful and deadly.

Sasha was euthanized so she would not suffer.

The SPCA has quarantined the remaining dogs, who will be tested for Parvo.

The disease is usually spread from dog to dog, but humans can transfer it. Both are reasons why adoptions are on hold until test results come back.

You can still adopt cats at the Adams County SPCA.

This is the second time in recent months the Adams County SPCA received a stray with parvo. In December Herbie also had to be euthanized.
