K-9 officer Zeke honored in Lower Paxton Twp.

PAXTONIA, Pa. (WHTM) -

Saturday was a big day for Harrisburg K-9 Officer Zeke, the Belgian Malinois dog who was shot in the neck last month while helping officers in Lower Paxton Township.

The Paxtonia Athletic Association honored Zeke by having him "throw" the ceremonial first pitch of the season at Paxtonia Elementary School.

Zeke still has a couple more weeks of recovery before being evaluated to return to duty.

Last month he was flown to a veterinary hospital in Mechanicsburg after being shot during a police call. He lost a lot of blood because of his injury, and his surgeon spent over two hours trying to repair the gunshot damage to his neck.

His partner/handler, Ty Meik, has been his primary caretaker and was also at Saturday's event.
