The Newport Borough Water Authority has issued a boil water advisory for all customers.
The authority said Monday that the advisory was issued as a result of a power outage in Howe Township which affected the operation of the township wells.
Operations manager G.E. Robinson said there was no break in the distribution piping and no contamination of the water supply, but he said the tank level of the Howe Township standpipe dropped below 14 feet of water and that condition compromises the requirements for the removal of viruses.
The advisory will remain in effect until two consecutive series of tests indicate that the water is safe for consumption.
Robinson said the boil water advisory is expected to remain until at least Wednesday.
