HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) -

Police are investigating a fatal crash in Derry Township, Dauphin County.

The crash closed Route 422, known locally as East Chocolate Avenue, between McKinley Road and Mansion Road for more than four hours before the roadway was reopened at around 1:30 p.m.

Derry Township police said the crash occurred just after 9 a.m. near Mansion Road, where a stopped tractor-trailer was unloading equipment in the westbound lane.

The driver of a Chevrolet Uplander drove onto the lowered trailer ramp and went onto the trailer bed before striking a piece of construction equipment, causing the SUV to overturn, police said.

The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. The name was not immediately released.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to call Derry Township police at 717-534-2202.
