State Police monitoring hauled refrigerated food

Posted: Updated:
GRANTVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

State Police are cracking down on what the Commissioner calls a nationwide problem.

Frank Noonan says truck drivers are turning off their refrigerated trailers to save money on fuel costs, which puts the safety of food that is being hauled in jeopardy.

The State Police will be teaming up with The Department of Agriculture during motor carrier enforcement stops around the Keystone State.

They will take temperature readings inside the trailers to help prevent the delivery of spoiled food. They will also be looking for cross contamination and unsanitary conditions.

The Department of Agriculture will oversee the removal and destruction of spoiled food found inside the trailers.
