Gunshot victim lied about identity, police say

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A man who claimed to have been shot in a robbery attempt in Lancaster was charged as a fugitive from justice when police said they discovered he was wanted in New Jersey and using a fake name.

Keith Hall, 43, was additionally charged with unsworn falsification to authorities and false identification to law enforcement, Lancaster police said Wednesday.

Officers on Monday night had responded to the area of Woodward and South Christian streets for a report of shots fired, but found no evidence of a shooting until Hall turned up at Lancaster General Hospital.

Hall, who had two gunshot wounds to his leg, claimed he had been shot in the 500 block of Woodward Street during a robbery attempt, but police said he gave them a false name, date of birth, and a Virginia address.

Police said his true identity revealed he was wanted for robbery in Essex County, New Jersey.

Hall was sent to Lancaster County Prison on $1 million bail.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
