COLUMBIA, Pa. (WHTM) -

Prosecutors said they plan to seek the death penalty against a man accused of killing his estranged wife's new boyfriend.

Mario Casanova-Lanzo of Lancaster was charged following an investigation into the Feb. 20 slaying of 36-year-old Parrish Thaxton.

Police say Casanova-Lanzo, also 36, broke into his estranged wife's apartment and shot Thaxton in the bedroom before fleeing.

According to officials, Casanova-Lanzo and his wife were married but legally separated, and she had sought protection from abuse orders alleging previous threats of violence.
