Harrisburg K-9 Zeke will return to active duty

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Zeke, the Harrisburg K-9 injured in the line of duty in March, will return to active duty.

On Tuesday he was put to the test by his handler, Corporal Ty Meik, and passed. The Belgian Malinois was medically cleared earlier in April but still needed to be evaluated for active duty.

Meik said his mental state needed to be tested before he returned to the field. "We are going to put a little bit of stress to him, and we are going to put him in situations that would involve our normal day-to-day operations, patrol work, and from there we will make a decision if he is capable of returning."

Money is still being raised for Zeke and his unit: The Harrisburg Kennel Club is collecting donations, and an organization out of Georgia called "Project Paws Alive" is selling a Zeke stuffed animal for $22.50.

And on May 11t there is a "Burger Burn" fundraiser at Sam's Club in Harrisburg from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be food for you and your K-9.
