A central Pennsylvania healthcare provider will open a medical facility in Newport by spring 2014 as part of a project to increase healthcare in Perry County.
After a study showed Perry County had a high rate of heart disease and obesity, PinnacleHealth determined the county was in need of better access to healthcare and announced Wednesday that they will lease space for primary and specialty care as well as imaging and laboratory services in the new Medical Professional Center in Newport. The contractor will break ground on the two-story facility in July.
"Adding increased access to primary care and outpatient services is part of PinnacleHealth's implementation plan based on the recent Community Health Needs Assessment completed in 2012," said Michael A. Young, president and CEO for PinnacleHealth in a press release.
The new facility will be located along Shortcut Road, near the Giant Food Store. Offices Sisson-Boyer Eyecare, LLC and Daniel Hengst, DMD Dentistry will also be housed in the building. PinnacleHealth will move their current FamilyCare Newport office into the first floor of the building and provide additional cardiology services and specialty physicians. and specialty care.
"Establishing a good relationship with a primary care physician, as well as early intervention for chronic illness, is very important in long-term health and wellness," he said. "This center will combine primary care and specialty services for added convenience for Perry County residents."
