Lower Paxton Township police are collecting prescription drugs

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

Lower Paxton Township police took a step forward in preventing dangerous prescription drugs from getting on the streets.

According to officials, prescription drug abuse has reached epidemic levels nationwide and in our region. Police say people are breaking into homes and vehicles to get their hands on the medications.

The Knights of Columbus Rosary Council #869 raised $2,500 for a med-return drug collection box that sits in the lobby of the police department. People can drop off their old medications with no questions asked.

You can dispose prescription medications and ointments along over the counter drugs, vitamins, samples and pet medicine.

Police say those who live outside of the township, are welcomed to use the drop box.
