Azira and Patterson score for Battery, Hernandez nets one for Isles
(May 1, 2013-Harrisburg, PA) - On a beautiful night at Skyline Sports Complex the Isles dropped to the Charleston Battery 2-1 in USL PRO action. Despite the Islanders having the better of the first half, the Battery captured two goals in the first half. The Isles with a late effort netted one goal at the end of the half.
Charleston Battery got an early jump on the match when Michael Azira scored from the corner of the eighteen in the tenth minute. Mark Wiltze' sent a cross from the far right side across the box and the Azira volleyed it far post to put the Battery in the lead. In the thirty eighth minute Nikki Patterson scored on a PK from a handball in the box from Coady Andrews. The Isles got one back when Lucky Mkosana sent a ball to Cristhian Hernandez outside the 25 yard mark. Hernandez drilled one in far post to net the only Islander goal in the forty third minute.
Second half action became a bit chippy as both teams battled on. Charleston almost added another goal in the 58th, only to have a Quinton Griffith shot tipped high over the crossbar by Nick Noble. The Battery continued with their effort denied twice with a wide shot by Zach Prince and Noble coming up big with a Dane Kelly save with less than 15 minute to go.
Islanders picked up the action the second half as well. Jimmy McLaughlin shot wide just missing the chance to tie it up. Still with less than 10 minutes to go, the Isles kept on the attached. Sainey Touray's shot was stopped by Odisnel Cooper. The Islanders kept the pressure on only to run out of time. At the buzzer, Battery takes three points.
Isles travel to Rochester to face the Rhinos on Saturday, May 4th at 7:05 pm. They return home on Friday, May 10th to meet Antiqua Barracuda FC in the first of two matches against Antiqua at Skyline Sports Complex.
