HANOVER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Hanover woman was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child after she gave a false report of sexual abuse, police said.

Trista Leanne Dennis, 29, was also charged with false reports to law enforcement and unsworn falsification to authorities.

West Manheim Township police said Dennis claimed to have intimate knowledge of sexual acts being performed on a child by an adult parent over the course of the past year.

She told investigators that she witnessed several of the acts, and that she didn't come forward earlier because the alleged abuser had threatened to shoot her, police said.

Police said they served a search warrant at the home of the alleged abuser, who denied any such crimes.

Dennis was interviewed again Monday and eventually admitted that she falsely reported the child abuse, that she lied in her previous statements with the intent to implicate the adult, and that none of the abusive acts ever occurred, police said.
