Police: Manchester girl lied about assault

MANCHESTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A 15-year-old Manchester girl who reported that she was assaulted by four young men as she walked home from school last month has admitted she lied about the incident, according to police.

Northeastern Regional police said Thursday they are closing the case since there are no real suspects and no danger to the public.

Police said they will not file charges of false reports against the teen, who confessed that she lied about the incident because she was flirting with a male friend and feared they would get into trouble.

The girl initially reported April 9 that the four young men called her derogatory names as she walked in the 100 block of Maple Street, then grabbed her by the arms, pulled her shirt down and touched her breasts.

She told police her attackers fled down South Main Street after she fought back.
