Henry County Teen Sentenced for Setting Church on Fire

Posted:

Danville, VA - A Henry County teen will spend two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to setting a church on fire.

Jean Claude Bridges, 18, was sentenced Thursday morning in United States District Court.

Bridges and another juvenile set fire to New Holy Deliverance Outreach Ministry in Axton in May of 2012. Bridges pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of destroying a religious property by fire.

In pleading guilty, Bridges admitted that he burned the church down because it had a predominantly African American congregation.

In addition to serving two years in prison, Bridges will have to pay $141,000 in restitution.
