Funeral for Bishop McFadden to be held Wednesday

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The funeral services for the late Bishop Joseph P. McFadden will be held on Wednesday morning, according to the Diocese of Harrisburg.

Diocese spokesman Joseph Aponick said McFadden's body will be received at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Harrisburg at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The body will then be available for viewing at the cathedral until Tuesday evening, after which it will then be transferred to the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Lower Paxton Township.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at 6150 Allentown Boulevard in Harrisburg. All services and viewings will be open to the public.

While McFadden's body is at St. Patrick Cathedral and Holy Name of Jesus, the coffin will be closed during all services but will be available for viewing at all other times throughout the day.

The coffin will then be closed each evening after evening prayer.

Sunday, May 5 - St. Patrick Cathedral, 212 State Street, Harrisburg

7 p.m. - Rite of Reception of the Body with Solemn Evening Prayer

 

Monday, May 6 - St. Patrick Cathedral

8 a.m. - Rite of Gathering in the Presence of the Body

- Viewing of the Body

12 p.m. - Mass

12:45 p.m. - Viewing of the Body

7 p.m. - Solemn Evening Prayer 

 

Tuesday, May 7

8 a.m. - Rite of Gathering in the Presence of the Body, St. Patrick Cathedral

- Viewing of the Body, St. Patrick Cathedral

12 p.m. - Mass, St. Patrick Cathedral

12:45 p.m. - Viewing of the Body, St. Patrick Cathedral

4 p.m. - Rite of Transfer of the Body to Holy Name of Jesus Church

7 p.m. - Solemn Evening Prayer, Holy Name of Jesus Church

 

Wednesday, May 8 - Holy Name of Jesus Church, 6150 Allentown Blvd, Harrisburg

8 a.m. - Rite of Gathering in the Presence of the Body

- Viewing of the Body

10 a.m. - Closing of the Coffin

10:30 a.m. - Solemn Funeral Mass

- Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery
