Two people were injured when a driver distracted by his cell phone crashed into their horse and buggy Friday morning, according to Ephrata police.
Christian Glick and his 15-year-old son sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment, police said.
Glick and his son were traveling along the shoulder of the 3000 block of Rothsville Road when 28-year-old Kevin Benito, of Manheim, rear-ended the buggy, police said.
Benito reported he was looking at his phone and reaching for it when the crash occurred at 8 a.m., police said. He was not injured.
The horse died as a result of the crash, and the buggy was damaged.
Benito was cited for careless driving and an expired registration.
