HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The College of Consultors of the Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg has elected an administrator to oversee day-to-day operations until a new bishop is appointed.

Father Robert M. Gillelan Jr., pastor of Prince of Peace parish in Steelton, was elected to the post Monday.

Gillelan, a native of Biglerville, had previously served as Vicar General/Moderator of the Curia for Bishop Joseph McFadden, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack in Philadelphia on Thursday while attending a meeting of the Catholic Bishops of Pennsylvania.

As administrator, he must have residence in the diocese and he must celebrate Mass for the people every Sunday and on holy days of obligation.

He will continue to serve as pastor of Prince of Peace Parish in Steelton.

Gillelan, 55, was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Harrisburg on May 27, 1989, by Bishop William Keeler at St. Patrick Cathedral in Harrisburg.
