Hanover police: Couple questioned in suspicious incident

HANOVER, Pa. (WHTM) -

Hanover police investigating an incident where a pair of strangers questioned two 11-year-old girls said they have identified the man and woman involved.

Police Chief Dwayne Smith said Tuesday that the couple has been very cooperative with the ongoing investigation, and no charges have been filed so far.

The man and woman, ages 46 and 43 respectively, are of Vietnamese descent and are new to the area, Smith said.

Police have said the girls were walking home from a public playground in the area of DeGuy Avenue and McCosh Street on the evening of April 28 when a silver car began following them slowly.

The car eventually pulled next to the girls and stopped, and the man and woman began asking the girls questions about where they live and go to school, police said. The driver eventually continued on his way.

Smith said that as his department nears a resolution to the incident, police are encouraging parents to speak with their children about the importance of avoiding strangers.
