You still need permission and the proper government permits, but a recent change to Kutztown University's weapons policy does allow firearms in certain areas.
The state-owned university in Berks County recently changed its policy to allow firearms in open areas, like walkways, with permission from campus police.
The change does prohibit weapons in buildings and at university events.
Kutztown's policy took affect April 19.
Kutztown is not the first school to do this. Last year, according to school officials, Shippensburg and Millersville made similar revisions.
According to Millerville University Police, even with the new policy in place, officers will politely ask owners to take their firearm elsewhere.
The change is policy comes following a request from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education that a across the board ban on firearms may not stand up in a court of law against the Second Amendment.
