Lynchburg's Showing Some 'Love' With New Sculpture

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - Tourists have one more reason to visit the Hill City. A new LOVE sculpture was just added to the trailhead of Percival's Island.

Two years ago, the Virginia Tourism Corporation began encouraging towns to create their own structures to showcase what makes their areas unique.

There are more than two dozen of them across the state.

Visitors are supposed to take pictures with them and post them on social media. The James River Council for the Arts hired an artist to make the sculpture.

"They said they wanted it to say Love, to be large and to represent everything you can do on the blackwater creek trail system. So, I just started to think and put each letter to a different recreation," said Paul Clementes, the artist.

Clementes started making the sculpture in January. It's made of concrete and aluminum.
