Gridlock, stop-and-go, bumper-to-bumper traffic on the east and west shores Friday night as drivers tried to navigate multiple closures on Interstate 81.
In Silver Spring Township, a fatal accident closed down the interstate from exits 52 to 57. The accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. and reopened around 9:30 p.m.
Around 5, it was a Friday rush hour unlike any many here have seen.
"It's been terrible. Everywhere you go there's tons of traffic," Griselle Caceres from Susquehanna Township said.
For some drivers, the key was to get creative and find those less traveled back roads; however that's getting tough to do.
State police admit that getting around nowadays is tough. But the key to dealing with 1-81 is time and patience.
"It's going to be an exercise in patience for people. If you are traveling, expect for there to be delays," Trooper Rob Hicks said.
