CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) -

In Cumberland County, officials are setting up a new law enforcement memorial to honor those killed in the line of duty.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the future site next to the Cumberland County 911 Center on Claremont Road in Carlisle.

The memorial immortalizes 11 officers who died in the line of duty. Their names and badges will be engraved on granite pillars surrounded by a garden. The design was created by Gannett Fleming.

Family members of those killed in the line of duty were presented a rose at the ceremony.

Construction of the memorial will start by the end of the summer. Donations for the site will be collected in hopes of raising $150,000.
